Hi, I have a 96 gt 5 speed with 90k miles. The car is all stock except strut tower brace and o/r-H with flowmaster mufflers. My engine makes a knocking noise when im driving. It is only there when im giving gas while driving and like its not even all the time. At idle when you rev it, you cant hear anything. It sounds like its coming from the top of the pass side of the engine... If the engine is knocking wont it always do it? any ideas?

i dont know about the older s95's but i know in some of the new edge when it starts ticking up top it is usually the sparkplugs comming loose. you might want to torque them down, other than that im not sure. i havnt torn into the mustang engines much. i know on our outboard motors in the Coast Guard when they tick it is probably valve lash, we just take the valve covers off and go at it with a feeler guage and reset them.

I did already. I did that when I was changing the intake manifold.

it is probly lash adjuster tick. they are known for that. they are probably not pumping up all the way. you could take off the valve covers and see if any of your rockers are loose at all.that would mean they are not pumping up or down. they cud be stuck up.

so it didn't rattle until after you change the manifold out?


also yes, if the motor is knocking from like a piston or wrist-pin it will knock all the time and not randomly.

my 97 was making the same noise after i bought it and i found that i was backfiring through my intake and after looking into my car further i found that the previous owner took out the cats and didnt put in a fake out so i was running lean there fore backfiring so i put on some magna flow high flow cats and it solved my problem
