Default Smells Like Burning Glue / Rubber?

So today I'm driving home and I noticed that my car smelled like hot glue / rubber. I didn't have my ac or heater on. I went home popped the hood and didn't see any smoke or any check engine light came on.

Anybody have any good what this could be? My mustang is an automatic so no clutch issues. The temperature doesn't go up or anything.

Did you run down a plastic bag?

I have had this happen several times--they stick to the mid-pipe(s) and stink like heck 'til it burns off. I swerve to avoid the damned things now...

thanks for the replies...Hey bojangles I checked your thread out but mine is not that bad...Today when I noticed the smell I had my top down and the smell came and went...

I've been searching around and I'm hoping that's the problem cliffyk...the smell...it doesn't smell like oil or nothing it smells like a hot glue gun. Seriously.

I'll bet you snagged a plastic bag on the exhaust, that's what they smell like...

My girlfriends 98 M3 is having the same problem, BMW forums say valve cover gasket could need replaced and the car is leaking a small amount of oil and it's burning off that way. I don't know about that though... I did not see any plastic bags under her car either.

Way Cool...

I would suggest to the others experiencing this smell that they take a closer look, as USMCSkyLine said it may no longer look like a plastic bag...

I have had some success with a stiff wire brush and solvent (lacquer thinner usually, which then smells like burning lacquer thinner for a while)--but mostly its just a question of waiting for it to burn off--swerving to avoid plastic bags in the future, and swearing at the jerkwipes that throw them out...
