5.4l swap
i have a 02 mustang and i was wanting to do the 5.4l lightning engine swap and was wondering will my bell housing on my old tranny bolt up to the engine. also wondering if i need to take the exhaust manifold off and put headers on and if i do what headers will fit?

You would need a 10+ inch cowl hood to even come close to that working...

Stock exhaust manifolds will work fine. Short tube headers might rub unless you use Ford Racing shortys. Long tube headers would have to be specific to a 5.4 swap in your car and they are very expensive. There is a company that makes them but like I said they are very expensive (like over $700) not including the price for the X-pipe. Bassani used to make an X-Pipe for the 2000 Cobra R which is perfect for a 5.4 swap but they stopped making them so you will have to find one or make some modifications. The bell housing will bolt right up and the transmission should hold up to like 500 hp. Your hood is gonna be an issue. Even a 4" hood is not gonna be enough so you're gonna have to cut through and then maybe buy a scoop to cover it up. I think there is a company that sell motor mounts that let the engine sit lower so look into that because it will help. Other options include ditching the Eaton blower and going with a Vortech, Kenne Belle, or a Whipple. With those, at the worst you will have to cut some sections of the hood with a dremel but it won't show from the outside. You'll only see the cut aways when you open the hood but you can cover that up with the hood liner. If you choose the Vortech route, then delete the EGR valve and get a 5.4 L aftermarket intake manifold like the HPS Hardball'r or get Professional Products intake spacers and use the Typhoon (or any other PI intake manifold). And BTW, the Lightning engine is heavy. You will notice the weight difference. It's a good idea to upgrade your brakes at because the car is not gonna stop as easily as it did with a 4.6. And don't forget to tune the car and upgrade the fuel pump. PM me if you need any advice along the way. There are others on here who have done this swap as well and they have a lot of info that will help you...
