Default clutch fork popped out

installed new king cobra clutch, finally got the trans back in and started it up.
got lots of shaking as soon as i released the clutch. (car is still up on four jack stands).
the clutch fork is sticking out further than it should, far enough that i can't put the cover back on.
I'm assuming this is why I'm getting all the shaking.
I can push the fork back in but it still has play, like its not on the ball on the opposite side. is there any way to get it back on that ball without pulling the trans again?
w/o a car till i get this fixed...
as always, thanks for your help!

I believe you will need to pull the tranny to get it properly seated--there just isn't enough maneuvering room/leverage to get it properly positioned with the transmission mounted...

^^this

if there's still a lot of play after the fork is properly seated you will need to replace the fork and the pivot ball stud.

i have a question for you guys: i was reading on another forum NOT to grease the pivot ball and the sleeve the tob rides on(dont remember what its called, but on jeeps it was part of the front bearing retainer). i used to be a jeep guy and on my numerous tranny swaps and such, i have always greased the pivot and the sleeve. im pretty sure that mustangs arent special and so im planning on greasing mine when i pull tranny pretty soon here. but i was just wondering what you guys think

From the '03 Shop Manual:

NOTE: Before installing the transmission, the ball stud, clutch release lever and the input shaft must be cleaned and lubricated. Use Motorcraft Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or XG-1-K or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.

to answer my original problem... the bad shaking i was experiencing was the drive shaft out of line when i reinstalled it down at the diff.
And the clutch fork CAN be popped back into place with the trans still mounted.
Did not re pull the trans, but fixed those two small things and took her for a spin today. it feel so good bein back in the car after not havin it a few days...

That's good to know! I shall file it away for future reference.

Glad to hear you got it straightened out...
