Default Correct tire size

Just purchased 18 x 9 rims and have stock 17 x 8 bullitts on my stang now. What is the best tire size to go to with the new rims, 275 35 or 40 18's, 265 35 or 40 18's ?

The OEM 245/45-17s are 24.91" outside diameter (working diameter, when loaded, 97% of unloaded diameter):

245/40-18 = 24.95" (+0.16%; close enough)

265/35-18 = 24.54" (-1.5%)
265/40-18 = 25.56" (+2.6%)

275/35-18 = 24.81" (-0.40%; close enough)
275/40-18 = 25.86" (+3.8%)

Stang... good info from the Cliffster, but what are your driving needs?

Do you want DD tires?
Do you want tires for 1/4 mile and lauching?
Do you want to rip the twisties like the mad dog that you are?
What conditions will these tires see... Rain, snow, ice?

Depending on your needs above, will dictate a good direction in which to go for tires. After this, you need to decide what brand/model in which to choose.

I think it is a mistake to attempt filling the wheel gap with tire profile, for a couple reasons. The first is your car is already lowered and will very likely create rubbing issues going larger. You will not be able to get rid of much more gap than you have now due to how the fenders are made. The second issue is you will effectively raise your gearing and throw off your speedo. Neither of these is a huge deal, but will also reduce your turn-in response with higher profile tires and lose some of the drop you gained with new springs.

As for tires, you may consider a Nitto NT555 as the price is good and a nice tire for the money.

PS. Pepe my Garage and see the absolute MIN gap you can have. I have done this with major suspension mods and would not be able to do the same on your ride as it is now.
