Default 96 GT changed belt runs warm?

Hello all,

My GF has a 96 GT 4.6 L it threw the the S belt yesterday and we drove it about 1/4 a mile it got hot enough to lose some fluid but didnt seem tooo hot. Replaced the belt and added about a gallon and half of water( will add coolant soon didnt have any) the water is still pretty green so there is a fair amount of coolant left.

Question? Now it's running warm about mid line on the temp gauge and when idling the fan on seems to come on when the a/c is on.

Oklahoma City Temp is upper 90's I told she could drive to work about a mile away and back but no more for now.

Any Advice?

We don't have the manual can someone tell me the coolant capacity too?

Thanks!

The fan should run with the A/C on.

Point is the fan seems to run only when the AC is on. Regardless it's running warm for some reason after replacing belt. Thanks.

Turning the AC on overrides the normal fan on/off switch. The normal fan operation is usually controlled by a seperate sensor. It should be located on the bottom of the radiator I think. Possibly when the old fan belt was leaving it's place on the engine, it knocked off or cut the wires for the fan sensor. I would google the fan switch sensor location for that car and start there.

Factory the fan isn't set to come on untill like 215* or somewhere around that. With the factory coolant temp guage you'll never know how hot it really is, so unless the guage is reading like past the "normal" range and the fan is still not on I wouldn't worry too much. on the 96-98 Gt's the temp sensor for the fan is the drivers side sensor on the coolant crossover. The other one is for the guage.

The temp gauge runs right around midline, it will go slightly over. Do these cars run tend to like that normally?

Yes, My brother's 97 ran right around mid way of the gauge. Mine seemed to run right around the "R" but I had the fan to come on at like 190* instead of whatever factory is.
