i did mine a while ago and i didnt drop the k member. If you have the right tools its really not that bad it just takes some paitence.

I did shorties and i raise the motor up. It gives a fare amount of room, but i can't say it would be enough for long tube as i haven't done them. I was able to move the motor from side to side as i did either sides, that made it easier. Good luck
