Default First steps....

Hello everyone! I was just wondering what you guys would suggest.... I have just bought an '03 GT convertible, 5 speed, and was wondering where to begin my mods. Exhasut, intake, chip? I have been looking into the Hypertech Power Programmer, but I think exhaust would be a wiser choice. I don't really want to change the headers, so would a BBK X-pipe (the one without cats) and flowmaster mufflers be a good combo? Or should I just go cat-back? Or maybe forget the exhaust and get the K&N FIPK?? I appreciate your help guys!
With my new toy, the Firebird I used to drive will now become my winter car! GM's aren't good for nothing after all!!!

I see you have an 86 TA, have any pics?

As for the GT, save the chip or programmer until last. Don't bother with Flowmasters, they offer nothing but noise and minimal performance.

Any brand h/x pipe is good, try Magnaflow straight through mufflers, or SLP, Dynomax...etc. Members on this site all praise Magnaflow and their quality and HP gains.

You can change your intake, but there's no need to if you keep your stock MAF. Your MAF is the biggest restriction currently in your intake system. Go ahead and swap that out for something aftermarket. You should save your money on the intake manifold if you don't plan on doing headers. You need to be able to get the burnt gasses out of the motor faster and you won't be doing this with stock manifolds...

I don't have any pics of my TA. I will shoot some over this weekend and try to post them up.

So I should get an H/X pipe as a fist step, with some Magnaflow mufflers. Would you suggest the XL mufflers, or the regular ones? And as for the H/X pipe, should I get one without the cat's?

Thanks!

Aren't you worried about your warranty? Dealerships love to void warranties due to mods.

I am not too worried about warranty if I buy bolt-on parts. I could put on the Xpipe, and take it off before going to my dealer. As long as the parts are bolt-ons, i am not worried.

Thats true for some bolt ons, but on some such as the xpipe without cats, they can dig into your cpu and tell that you've changed something if its a serious problem such as a blown motor or busted tranny. Just be careful.

Also, which magnaflow system? There is magnapack, or the regular one.

So i guess I should go with an H/X pipe with cats then, to be sure I don't set off a code in the ECU. Anyone know how much HP gains apporx. i can expect from a Magnaflow cat-c\back and and X pipe with cats? My brother just bought a G35 Coupe, and he says he can take me... i want to blow his doors off!!! This is a matter of pride now!!

Thanks again guys!

The Magnaflow cat-back sounds awesome, I have clips if you'd like to hear them...

The Magnapack cat-back is a lot more raspier, sound just like glasspacks, but it's tastefully done and is really impressive sounding. They flow about the same and it's personal preference.

Magnaflow has the best flowing cat-back on the market, the price is cheap if you shop for it and their h/x pipes are great quality, everything is stainless steel and fits like a charm.

Flowmaster sucks for performance, plain and simple.

SLP catback is 330 from LMPerformance...it's all about the sound you want between magnaflow and slp cause both are performance exhaust, so sound is the only difference. SLP has resonators only...id check it out.

Hey man,

I have a Bassani Off Road X-pipe with the Magnaflows.. The sound is amazing and you won't believe the performance! Don't get the catted X pipe.. Get the off road! No restriction! Then just buy the MIL eliminators to kill the check engine light! Get them here http://www.mileliminators.com/order.html.. I just got mine! Woo hooo!

Me and a buddy just created a little movie of our stangs for a school project! I'll post the clipslater and let you listen to the sound; it's unique and MAD as hell... I love it!
