Default Few questions

2001 5 Sp GT.

1) What was the standard gear ration in this model year?

2) Can someone tell me their speed @ 2000 rpms?

3) What average mileage are you getting?

1. 3.27:1;

2. I assume you mean in 5th gear, should be around 67mph @ 2k rpm;

(here's a link to my "How fast can I got in each gear?" calculator--you have a T-45 transmission)

3. Depends on where and how you drive--mostly around town 14-16mpg if you do not have a lead foot; 50/50 highway and town 17-20; mostly highway 21+;

Thanks for the reply. That is just about where I am. Those number are not that great. I expected the fuel to be a little better then 21.5 ( my last tank average ) per gallon. My 98 vette ( before I totaled it ) was 26 mpg average. I do like the pony though. Lots of inexpensive potential. Thanks again

Cliffy answered all of you questions with perfection, my only input is that i can't possibly see your vette getting that much better gas millage than our gt's, sounds like your going off of factory speculation and not real world driving situations. If you really got 26mpg in the 98 vette, you should easily equal or possibly surpass those number in a stock gt. I only average around 12 to 18 mpg, but i drive a lot of city and ive got the lead foot syndrome. If its fuel efficiency in a V8 that your worried about, the stock gt is about as good as it gets. Yes, the mods are fairly inexpensive, but not anywhere as cheap as the old 5.0s. Best bang for the buck is with gears and nitrous, although gears may kill the mpg your trying to achieve depending on if your a regular highway driver or not. CAI, intake, exhaust, are all decent cheap mods, pulleys if you have the previous done. Good luck, and have fun!

26mpg is 1mpg more then the '98 'vette EPA "highway" spec, I've never even come close to the highway spec on any car I've ever owned--the 2001 GT rating is 23mpg highway.

It's not an economy car, never was intended to be one...

I'm not trying to start a war here but around town in my Z06 I usually average mid-high 17's around town (5 mile trip stop and go both ways), it peaks around mid 18's if I use a light foot the whole time on that same commute.

On the highway it actually does a hair better than the EPA spec but depending on the trip between 27-31mpg.

IIRC the car is rated at 19/28mpg for the Manual (the First 400+ HP car to not receive the gas guzzler tax)

My Mustang was a lot worse on gas on both the city front and the highway front.

The actual average was like 25.8. I did do it that's fact. My 98 had a 6sp. Now with that there was quite a bit of coating in neutral when I was approaching traffic and stuff like that. I filled up, drove the week then re-filled up the following weekend. Of course there was zero getting on it.

My 96 gt with 4.10 gears and really suprised me with the gas mileage.
I drive 46 miles to and from work 5 days a week and its about 40 miles of 55mph back roads and 6 miles of city driving and the last 3 tanks I have got a hair or 300 miles to a tank and only filled up 12 gallons of gas. the best I got was 315 at 12 gallons so thats a lilttle over 26 mpg. I shift it at 2000 rpms untill it gets warmed up then shift at 2500 rpms at every shift. So it is possible to get good gas mileage of course when driving hard you wont get that. The first tank with the 4.10 gears I got 250 miles to a tank with a 12 gallon fill up which is still 20mpg.
