Default tension on chains

Anyone know what is the max you can mill off your heads, or the thinest headgasket you can install and still have enough tension on your new chains to work properly and to last?

nick, they had to resurface my trick flows, they took off six thous. The gaskets, i had allready orderd and were thirty thous.
They told me the tension on my chains were fine.Took my car for a little test drive yesterday, pulled over lifted the hood heard a slight noise coming from what i thought from the front cover.it sounds like my chain slightly hitting my cover, what do you think? If so i will be ordering new gaskets, and we will be pulling it out again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What tensioners did you use? I only like the OEM Ford early iron ones.

The plastic pos ones belong in the trash..... stick w what mckinney said and run the ford ones...

And if its hitting the cover check to make sure that w.e. they used to hold the tensioners open they remembered to remove...for a chain to hit the cover you need alot of slack....and the tensioners have a large range of motion

With only .006 off the heads this should NOT be an issue....most people cant even see .006......and a typical resurface starts at .005....and only goes up frm there....ive taken much more off of overhead cam heads before w no problems
