Default Help! Rear end seized up.

Well it appears my rear needs replaced thanks to my gf. I work nights she took off in it wednesday morning while I slept...got a mile from the house and heard noises coming from rear but continued on despite having stopped due to the noise. Thats not the best part...then a gf of hers at work suggested her husband could fix it. So he towed the car...from the front wheels back to his house about 20 miles about....and proceeds to tell her she he can fix it. Well I guess we all know where there is going. Calls her next day and says companion bearing stuck in rear. Nice going with the tow. Anyway I have searched high and low for a used rear. They are a touch hard to come by...i am not sure what years are interchangeable and potentially what other ford vehicles have the same 8.8 rear my mustang has. If anyone and I mean anyone has any help or suggestions with where to find a rear please reply. I am located in Fayetteville Nc but have a rental car and can travel anywhere reasonably close. Thanks.

I just came across this the other day, says he only wants like $300 for it. I have no idea what it might cost to ship such an item though, so might not even be worth it.

If its the car in your sig, any 8.8 out of a fox gt or 94-98 gt will work. If you get one out of a fox car then the diskbrake stuff will need to be swapped over from your old rearend but will work.

A fox body rear will bolt up and work with the car but you may have tire clearence issues. The fox rear is shorter than the 94-98 rear. you can also use a 99-04 rear but that rear is longer. Fox rear shortest/94-98 longer/ 99-04 longest.

The housing is the same length, the reason the 94-98 axles are longer is because of the disk brake accessories. But if all you need is the internals then I believe any 28spline 8.8 trac-lock differential should work.

There is a mustang specialty shop in Benson called Fastlane Motorsports. You have probably heard of them but give them a call. Sometimes they retain parts from people when they do swaps.
