Shifter problem... or tranny problem? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys, i bought my 01 bullitt and it came with a pro 5.0 shifter, the shifter is sloppy as can be, i hate it, took me forever to even learn how to shift it ( and ive driven nothing but standards before so i know what im doing)
a few buddies of mine thought i had a stock one until further investigation revealed it is a pro 5.0 and laughed, said nothing about bad things about it.
my buddy had a stock shifter with only a few hundred miles on it and i installed it, when i went to test it out i couldnt get into reverse or 2nd gear half the time, and when i could it would just grind their ways into the gear
so i installed the pro 5.0 again and had no problems besides the fact i have to fish around for gears...
i plan on ordering a MGW, but before i do i want to know is it just a shifter problem or a tranny problem
like i said, with the stock shifter it grinds em til you find em and with the aftermarket it goes into the gears, you just have to fish around.
thanks!

1) pro 5.0 shifters arent bad, nothing to laugh about at the very least. i personally like mgw and triax a little better but i used to have one on my car and i had no real complaints about it...DEFINATELY is not the cause of your shifting problems.
2) there should be a plastic cup looking thing attached to the ball on the bottom side of the shifter that goes into the tranny. make sure this cup is not cracked, broken, or missing. make sure its snug onto the ball as well. cuz if you have to fish around for gears that sounds like your problem to me. even a crack can cause your shifter to act funny. and while your looking at the cup, look down inside the tranny and just see if anything looks off.
3) make sure your installing the shifters right. also, make sure you've adjusted the stop bolts properly. everytime you install the shifter into a car (even if you remove it from your car and reinstall it in your car) you need to double check the stop bolts. the shifter doesnt sit in the EXACT same place every time. these won't be the cause of your problem because the stop bolts won't cause gears grinding and sloppy shifts, but it can lead to problems down the road just letting you know for some FYI.
4) try changing your tranny fluid. it is night and day with shifting when your tranny fluid is old.
5) and umm....i think thats about it. i would change the tranny fluid reguardless if you don't know the last time it was done.

when i changed them out everything seemed to be in great shape the way it should be
as far as the stops i know the 3650 tranny, which i have, has internal stops and on some shifters it says to not adjust the stops that come with the shifter itself...
when i say this shifter is sloppy i mean sloppy... in any gear i can move the shifter up down and all around while driving which i know you can do normally, but not as much as mine does..., my buddies MGW on the other hand was the best feeling shifter ive ever felt
when i reinstalled the pro 5.0 i made sure it went in correctly and didnt rush anything...
i guess im just stumped
and i dont understand why when putting the STOCK shifter in i couldnt find any of my bottom gears except 4th...

yes the 3650 has internal stops, the stop bolts aren't supposed to touch the shifter when you have it in gear is what i was getting at guess i should have clarified.
yes the mgw is a good feeling shifter, in most peoples opinion the best. but the stocker shouldnt feel as you described and the 5.0 is a fairly solid shifter in itself, buying an MGW isnt going to make this problem go away its just going to be 200$ spent to fix nothing.
