Default Egr delete questions different ways to do it

Mine Egr tube is crack and I'm just going to delete it altogether. I am going to cap off the port on the header and was going to block off the manifold with the plate but with the Egr shut off with a tuner inspection in nj can detect it turned off. I was thinking of capping off the header and cutting the pipe open before the vacuum ports. Would that trip any codes? The Egr would all be connected like normal but instead of exhaust being circulated it would be sucking in fresh air. Anyone try this?

The engine will run like crap (lean) with um-metered fresh air, rather than exhaust gas, being ingested through the EGR--exhaust gas cannot be "re-burned"--that's how the EGR reduces combustion chamber temperatures and in the process reduces the NOX emissions (and allows advanced timing which increases fuel efficiency).

EGR is an "odd-ball" in that unlike most emission related stuff, it actually sort of helps.

Introducing un-metered air will confuse the PCM and the mix will go very lean under the conditions that activate the EGR (low load/cruising).
