T-45 transmissions:
Do NOT powershift a T-45. I would also not recommend speed shifting a T-45 into 3rd gear. I have been thru 2 T-45, with the second one only lasting about a year.
These transmissions have a weak syncroniser, espcially in 3rd. My 2nd one was doomed after one speed shift into 4th that didn't quite make it. It was only a matter of time till I lost both 3rd and 4th.
I guess what I am saying is take it easy on T-45 equipped cars (I believe they are in the 01 and down??)
Also, if you do ruin your T-45, and plan on getting LT headers, just get a more reilable trans like a 3650 or a TKO. You must remove the headers to remove the trans, so you only want to do it once if at all. I learned the hard way!!!!

Maybe if your powershifting with the mods you have below. Normal-Bolt on cars shouldnt have problems powershifting a t-45. They dont seem to have problems until you get in the 350+ Flywheel HP range.

RE: TECH: Manual transmissions, T45, T5, 3650, T-56 ETC
I tried power shifting my 03 Mach from 2nd to third at 5K RPM and hit the wall. It just would not go into 3rd. I had Ford replace the clutch with a beefed up clutch, and put in a Steeda short throw shifter. That helped somewhat, but then I got a recall from Ford to replace the guts to the tranny to include new beefed up syncronizers. That did the trick. I can now shift from 2nd to third at any speed over 5K RPM.

Crap... really ?? I've 1-2 powershifted my T45 at least 50 times in the past month. It's still OK.. same as when I bought it.. SLIGHT grind when slow shifting to 2nd.. but I got a warranty with it so I'm not trying to be too careful with it.

The second trans acutally lost the sync in 4th, but a healthy shift into 4th one day (it would still go in, it would just grind a bit) resulted in a loss of both 3rd and 4th gear. This is why I ended up spending this summers supercharger money on a trans/clutch and assorted gear to make it work.

Mine does in first, less so in second, and barely audible in third... silent from there on up. Not a lot of noise, it is noticable though.

hey I'm new to the forums and mustangs in general. So what transmision does my 2001 GT have and would it be smart to upgrade my clutch/flywheel? I'f so what do you recommend? My car is a manual and I plan on putting some seriouse power to it so I'de like to know how my transmisions gonna hold up if I say.....put a charger on it...
