Default 1000hp+ Cobra Queestion...

Hi. My name is Brandon. I don't "technically" have Cobra. It's a Thunderbird that is now 50% TBird and 50% Cobra. Basically, I want to take the motor and do some "work" to it. Long story short, it will be running between 1000 and 1250 HP to the wheels when it's done.

I want to build up the rear (IRS or solid axel) to make it not blow apart at 1000hp+. What can be done to make the rear reliable and not blow apart? I currently have a IRS with 3.73 posi (trak-loc?) connected to a 4" aluminum driveshaft. 8.8" 28 spline... What can be done to the stock-ish IRS to make 1000HP safe or what type of solid axel can be used/what has to be done to the solid axel to make 1000 HP safely?

Also, can anyone tell me what the maximum HP is on a 4R100W tranny fully built (reliably)? What tranny (auto, preferably; manual around here is a pain) will hold my monster motor?

Thanks for any help you can give!

EDIT:

What is the maximum HP a Teksid block can hold @ ~30Lbs of boost? People say anywhere between 750 and 1500HP. Can anyone close that windows down to a 100HP difference?

Thanks!

Have any pictures? The Teksid block will handle pretty much anything you can throw at it.

The Teksid will handle the ~30Lbs of 1000hp+ boost?

Pics here. This is when I first finished rebuilding it after I bought it from salvage. Right now I'm in the middle of pulling the whole interior out (and wire up what needs to be wired), and the engine (for the third time) to rebuild it starting next year. Also, in the middle of prepping it for a full paint job (engine bay, interior, exterior, etc.). Needs a new hood tho.

Do you think the 8.8" rear will withstand my onslaught of pony's?

Dont worry about the teskid, it wont even sweat with that. ive seen them withstand more than that. you may have to get a ford 9" or atleast 33 spline axles, diff, welded axle tubes and your torque boxes welded

are you seriously planning a 1200rwhp build or is it a pipe dream, whats you're budjet you're asking pretty "basic" questions for someone who is going to "build" a 1200 horse car.

My theory is, that if you have to ask what you need to handle 1000+ hp, you dont know how to build a 1000+ hp car in the first place.

Very true, I already have my 1500hp 2v build all planned out and never had to ask a single question.

But to answer his question an 8.8 with 33 spline axles, auburn diff, 9" ends, welded tubes and braced axle housing will handles around 1700hp. Use a spool and 35 spline axles and it will handle 2000+hp.

A teksid is fine and will handle 1500hp unprepped but if you want to make 1200hp easily you need a big bore block. The easier the engine makes the power the safer the engine will be.

I have pretty good understanding of auto's and how to make some serious HP safely, but these Ford 4.6L (V8) cars im just starting to learn. I can build the engine just fine, but didn't want to get everything done, and then all of a sudden, the block isn't strong enough. Same goes for the rear. I've never really dealt with the 8.8" Ford rear ends, so I have no idea what they can handle or do.

I know what I'm doing in a general sense, just not car specifically. This won't be the first race car I've built with my bare hands. I've done a FWD drag car with about 600HP. Thing was mint, till someone sabotaged it...

But, seriously, thanks for all the answers. I think I can take it from here (hopefully). And to the person who asked if this was a pipedream, or reality, all I'm going to say is I have $10K involved in reconstruction, basic mods, motor pieces, repairs, etc.
