How much oil does your horse burn?
#4
Not a drop, 105k miles, oil (10W-30 Pennzoil synthetic, Motorcraft 820S filter) changed every 2500-3000 since I got it with 30k.
I realise what I am about to say can start wars, nonetheless 8k miles is too far between oil changes--Ford says 5k maximum in the owners manual...

I don't burn any but I change mine every couple months and have only put 3500 miles on the car.
A buddy of mine is an amsoil dealer and ran it in his dd for 15k miles had it tested and came out as good new

Also it's not breakdown of the oil that is the issue, it's accumulation of the by products of combustion (mostly acidic) that is the main issue. While some oils do a better jobs of neutralizing these by-products, no motor oil can prevent their production.
No manufacturer recommends going beyond their oil change intervals (for our cars 5k for normal service, and 3k for severe¹) regardless of the brand or base stock of the oil.
My grandfather told me more than 50 years ago that "Oil is cheaper then engines." It was true then and it's true now...
Change it every 2.5-4.0k, with any major brand dino or synthetic, and you'll have nothing to worry about.

¹ - FWIW, in town driving and/or routine trips of less than 10 miles constitute severe service as the oil never gets hot enough to boil off the nasties. Amsoil uses a higher percentage of neutralizer additives to achieve its long-term TBN (Total Base Number) values. It's a great marketing ploy, however there are downsides to this which is why no major motor oil manufacturer has followed suit.
