Default tr-3650 power limits

If my car is making 400rwhp with similar torque numbers should the tr-3650 be able to handle the power. The trans is rated at 360ft-lbs but modular motor with a power adder exceed that.

It'll be close. I think 375 TQ is the recommendation for the 3650? If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will blast me for it on here. It'll come down to how much you beat on it at this point as far as how long it will last though.

They are rated for 360ft/lbs at the crank, which is roughly 315rwhp. They don't last long with any sort of aggressive driving once a power adder is part of the equation. You CAN swap out the input shaft for a hardened 26-spline unit. The input shaft is the weakest link on the 3650 in stock form. With a hardened 26-spline unit, they can handle quite a bit of abuse. Being an 03, you have a pretty good version of the 3650, but they do have weaker shift forks and synchros than the 04s. By the time you end up beefing up the 3650, you could have already bought a t56 in a lot of cases.

Take that for what it's worth, I used to have one myself and was looking into building mine, but it just wasn't worth all the money. They are a pretty complicated trans to build from a manual gearbox standpoint and they cost a lot of moneys!! I know liberty transmission and (I think promotion) sell a hardened input shaft as well as a kit that updates the synchros and shift forks to the 04 specs.

Was it the 3550 that was rated for 375? Just trying to remember where I got that number at.

Like mentioned above, it really depends on how you treat the car. My rear end is stock (including clutch) plus i run Nitto dr's and make 500 rwtq on the nitrous, and all has been fine so far.

Sort of a sidenote, here's some info from the RedBook, that might be of interest, about the trannies in our cars:

Also, here is a great article from Transmission Digest providing a good description of the 3650, and comparisons to the T-5/45 and TKO transmissions.
