Default Just bought my first Mustang!!! and its broken!

Hi, first post. I just brought home a 2001 GT, Tropic Green/Beige.

Guy I bought it from said that last night he was driving down the road and heard a pop, felt a miss, lost some power...pulled over and saw water leaking and heard a loud hissing/sucking noise.

I gave him 1600 for it...starts and runs okay but has a slight miss and a loud hissing/sucking noise from the right side head, and a water leak in the same area.

Im feeling...blown head gasket? Is it hard to change head gaskets? I did head gaskets on the 350 in my 85 vette and it was a bear!

OOh great deal! Welcome to the MF. Nice car. I wouldn't say that it's difficult. Time consuming, yes.

Welcome to MF.Great price on the car.As for the head gasket,I'd take it to your garage and see what they say.Unless you're fairly certain you can handle that yourself.

Yeah he wanted out of the car FAST.

Thing is he used it as a Daily driver, not some kid that raced it, he got it in 2005 with 75K easy going miles on it, and today it has 180K miles on it, interior and exterior are clean and like new, everything works inside and out, engine itself is even clean.

I know a mechanic that can rebuild the engine in the car, including a hone out, new bearings, rings, etc...My dad bought a 2003 GT/Steeda Convertible last year and the car lot delivered the car 6 qts low on oil...yes, Im serious. The mechanic had it all like brand new in 3 days, and that car has seen the redline a few times, never a hiccup.

My dads GT

6 quarts is a lot to be low for these cars. That would be, uhhhmmm, empty. Glad to hear it survived.

Basically it appeared they had just drained the oil out and forgot to refill it...it was driven a good 25 miles like this, some of that was "spirited driving"...

Bearings were all worn but not spun, cams were shot though. Rings didnt look great..

Honestly the guy assembled the motor and started it, then sitting there idling something wierd happened, it just seized hard with a momentary metal to metal gring just prior to. A timing chain had apparently failed for whatever reason, so he got to replace all the valves and all 8 pistons.

So all said and done we got 8 new pistons/rings, 16 new valves, all new gaskets, all new bearings, new oil pump, new tensioners, new chains, etc...for free.

If yOu plan on rebuilding it might as well go the forged internals route since it will be apart. That way if you plan on adding fi down the road u won't have any worriees.
Nice car good luck
