Default Rear-End Rebuild

I'm interested to know how much time/effort/money it takes to get yourself a stronger rear end? Is the stock Stang rear-end 8.8"? What about stock axle? I'm looking to put something together that can launch hard on drag slicks and not crack/break/blow up/incinerate, etc.

31 spline axles? 33 spline axles? 9" differential? Educate me. I looked around a bit on the internet but it was kinda information overload and I'd rather get some opinions from folks I (kinda) know.
