Questions about exhaust
Hey everyone new to the board and new to the wonderful world of Mustangs - after years of small engine FWD I have made the awesome change to big engine RWD and couldn't be happier. I have questions about putting an exhaust on my 02 Mustang GT and before I post I just want to saw that I have scoured threads on sites, looked at the mustang sound clip site, and have tired to do as much homework as possible. My question is I want the best of both worlds - a loud exhaust when you get after it but one with little drone at cruise speeds. I have seen that flowmaster, magnaflow, and mac all have drone but that comes with a nasty sounding exhaust note. Most of the threads I found were from a few years back but loudmouth seemed to not drone? So I was curious if anyone had found a setup that works well that doesn't drone badly - I also don't need an exhaust that will wake neighbors up three blocks away =). Thanks again, and sorry for the long post!

If its just sound that you are looking for, try just changing to any aftermarket h-pipe (or x if you like that sound) leaving everything else stock, that might give you the sound you want? Just about any aftermarket cat-back is gonna wake the neighbors up.

Thanks for the reply - Ok so even if I keep everything else stock changing to an aftermarket H or X pipe will get a more agressive exhaust tone when I am WOT but pretty much the same at cruising speed?

I guess it really depends on how far you want to go with your exhaust (headers, mid pipe, cat back) and how much you want to spend.
Something to consider (and this is just a generalization) is that chambered style mufflers tend to resonate a bit more than straight through styles. Also it can be influenced by the type of mid pipe you're running, be it a x, h, or prochamber.
Then there's headers. Long tubes are almost always the better option over shorties, and tend to deepen the exhaust and help eliminate some of the drone.
With all that said, i have the SSS Terminator exhaust and love it. It's very loud (even with a catted h) but has a nice deep tone with little droning overall.

Ok cool this is why I started the thread so I could learn some new stuff - never heard of SSS before. Seems like from what I have found people love the sound these produce but don't complain much about any drone at cruising speeds. Anyone else have these, and if you do is the terminator or adrenaline system?

I have MAC longtubes, o/r Prochamber, and Borla stingers catback and absolutely love it. I rarely hear a drone. The prochamber keeps it pretty quiet at idle even though i dont have cats on it, but it screams when I stomp on it.
