I've got a 2002 mustang gt 4.6l. I am wondering if their is any mods I can do to clean up the engine bay and just make it look nicer, and lighten the car up also? Thanks feel free to add pictures, I learn better that way haha.

Idk about free mods really... I know a couple ones that would be your cheapest mods to make the car look better and seem better, depending if you have the tools and supplies already.

1st: Clean the engine bay up from grease. Simple Green and a hose with (sprinkler setting at the end of it) cold water. Cover all nessescary areas such as like the CAI, MAF, Electrical parts and connections and lighting spray down to get a clean finish. Let this AIR DRY before driving.

2nd: Gas peddle mod, they have a write up on it on the how to section. Costs like $2.00 at most for this mod.

3rd: Paint your calipers if you don't mind spending $10 on the paint at your autozone or auto store near you.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Takign your EGR off will help A LOT w/ the engine bay...im doin it when i add my 6061 intake plenum to my car. Ive only heard that it makes it look better...no performance gains.

Yeah I know that, but I'm looking for all performance gains, weight loss, and better looks.

Performance gains are going to cost money, and for the most part they aren't cheap.

i always thought this way and ill share this with you and im not coming off as a dick i hope but... you get what you pay for. pay cheap, you end up with a cheap look or cheap results. if you want something worth while then you need to spend money. dont want to get something with quality results dont get it at all.

Nothing is never cheap/free if done right..

You can make a rear seat delete that will help with weight an looks..
Remove the silencer from the air intake cone an drop in a k&n filter
Remove egr
tint headlights/tails
Black on the deck panel

There a few cheap things that will help make car look good an don't cost much if u do it yourself.

+1 on the gas pedal mod.

I agree with all you guys about you get what you pay for. I found that out on my truck. The best thing to do is keep it clean!

Out of work, means you have time. Best thing you can do is grab tooth brushes and q-tips and detail the heck out of your car while you have the time. About the only 'free' thing you can do.

You can always wet sand your headlights. More then likely they are foggy.

Sorry, I'm of no help to the OP, but I'm hopefully picking up an '02 GT Vert today, and it has, what appears to be, tiny hash marks on the headlights. Almost looks like they were stressed at some point, but it has a clean carfax. I think it's just age. Are there solutions to cleaning that up?

By the way, I'm open to hear cheap mods as well.

Is the "gas pedal mod" to fix the slop in the pedal?

One free item that will improve the looks...
Cut a little off of the coil springs to get it out of the clouds. Just be careful not to cut too much. If you do, you will lose too much of the suspension travel range without increased resistance and hit the bumpstops easier. You could probably drop the ride height by ~3/4" without any major issues.

Some basic maintenance is always good...
Some items are more time consuming than costly.
Pull the plugs and check the gap and look for excessive wear or fouling. Clean them and re-gap them (always a good idea to torque plugs to prevent over-tightening). Replace fuel filter. Replace brake fluid. Get under car and clean any and all greasy, oily dirt from motor, trans and chasis (it is dead weight, ugly, and hinders simple cooling of components).

Good luck finding some work!!!
