Need to replace A/C compressor, how hard?

If you know it's compressor clutch just replace it. You won't have to open the A/C system.
Replacing the A/C compressor is no more difficult that doing a P/S pump but what sucks about it is that by opening up the A/C system you allow air and other contaminants to get into the system. That requires you to replace the Receiver/Drier, Accumulator, and Orifice tube as well as take the car down to a shop and have your entire A/C system flushed and refilled under vacuum.

Here's the AC Clutch/field coil R&R from the shop manual. The field coil is pressed on and can be a PITA to get on and off with the compressor in the car...

I am replacing my whole compressor today. Does anyone have any tips?
I have never done this before but it doesnt look that hard. I have an 01 SVT and I figured for and extra hundred bucks id replace the whole compressor. I am going to buy the Receiver/Drier, Accumulator, and Orifice tube also and have it vac'd and recharged by a professional. I like cold A/C! can I just let the pressure out before I get to work? then get it vac'd and recharged?
