Default High pitched whine?

Recently I've noticed this high pitched whine that comes from the engine when I start the car, and while driving. I did a search on the forum and found a thread that may help which talked about a possible bad idler. But I released the tension and spun the idler, and there isn't any resistance. Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem could be? I'm suspecting the pulley to the bottom left of the idler, but I'm not sure which pulley that is, and I can't find any diagrams. Even my Haynes doesn't seem to have a diagram for my 04. Any help is appreciated.

Maybe somebody wanted to suprise you and installed a Supercharger on your Mustang!
lol, jk!

I have a high pitched whistling noise recently but I think its more of a vacuum leak someplace.

A failing generator or A/C compressor bearing can whine as you describe, here's what's what...

  1. generator;
  2. belt;
  3. coolant pump;
  4. power steering pump;
  5. crankshaft;
  6. A/C compressor;
  7. tensioner idler;
  8. fixed idler;
  9. fixed idler;
