Symtoms of a fuel pump failure?

^ I am pretty sure the S197's have an access for the pumps.
MySlow... you push the tabs and the white outter part will expand OVER the black tube and come off. There are also some special little round pieces that go in to other connections, to release the clips on the inside.

I had an Explorer that was always going though fuel pumps. I cut a panel out of the floor board for easy access. Made a patch panel for it with weather strip and all. It worked great for the ten years I owned the truck. I could change out the fuel pump in minutes. Access panels should come from the factory IMHO Ha Ha.

So i finally got everything out. It was a major PITA, took about 3 days for me (only actually working 1-4hrs a day.) Next time hopefully I'll be smart and just tow the car to someones house with a garage so i have some light! Sticking a fuel soaked flashlight in your mouth while trying to figure out how to pull stuff apart for the first time is definitely no fun! It's ok i hopefully got the hard part out of the way. But i do have one more question (ugh i hate asking this many questions)
So SVT fuel pump that i bought is pretty much idential (if not) in size to the OEM one but the filter attached to the pump couldn't be much different. The only way i can fit the pump into the basket would be by "kinking" the filter slightly. Basically it's too wide to fit in the spot it needs to be. Will it work fine anyways? If it's not will the dirty OEM filter work? I just called ford and they said i can't buy ANY filters except the fuel filter itself without buying the entire $300 assembly. Maybe i can find them online.
Here's what i mean.
BTW I'm going to be cleaning out the bucket. And I'm going to see if Ford sells strainer filters and replace that too (if they actually sell them)

So I'm having partially the same issue. I'll turn my car on and it'll Rev to about 900 RPM then as soon as I put it in gear my car revs to over 1500 RPM, make my car shake along with an annoying sound that comes through my speakers and the sound, sounds like my engine reving but through a speaker and after all that my car shuts off in me either while I'm driving, in park or just coming in and out of gear in general. I'm not sure on what this could be but I also think my fuel pump will be going out because I put 10 bucks in my tank while it was a hairline from being on "E" and it went straight to half a tank. Which I know thats not anywhere close to being right. Along with all of this, the previous owner I bought the car from never changed the spark plugs and wires since the car has been made! (I just changed all of them. So either way I know I might need a new fuel pump but do you think my PCM could be the reason why too?
