So I have had this ticking noise in my Mustang since I bought it during the summer. It seems to be getting louder and it does it at idle and under load. I haven't really cared too much about it because my plan was to replace it with DOHC motor but I can't seem to find any so I want to try to find the cause of the noise. It seems to come from the bottom end but it doesn't sound like a rod knock. It seems loudest at idle and when it's first started in the morning. I am running Mobil 1 synthetic 5/20, I always thought that was kind of thin oil but that's what Ford calls for. I am going to take a video and post it here tomorrow. I am also going to check over the exhaust to make sure I have no leaks and to make sure all my spark plugs are tight.

My car is a 2001 GT with 54k.

It's probably the heads. There's a tsb out from ford about this. Mine has it. I tried everything. I think it's the valve guide tho

I believe the noise is a piston slap. I may post a video tomorrow.

Could be any number of things. Exhaust leak, cam chain noise, belt. I know my car makes a lot more noise running 5/20 then it does running 5/30 oil when it's cold.

I have checked the exhaust over many times so it is not an exhaust leak. I am actually changing my oil today and I already bought 5/30 instead of 5/20 so I hope that quiets it down some.
