Default Odometer Doesn't Light Up

2002 Mustang V6. The odometer area is intermittent, sometimes it is lit, sometimes not. Do these have a history of failure, is there something I can check? I would imagine it's not worth replacing.

Mine does the same thing. Ive totally disassembled and checked it all. I think its the ribbon cable to it, it is a loose connection. I plan to take it apart again and solder all the connections.

When I had my expedition, it also did this. Might be a common problem with ford clusters. I do remember reading a article that there is something you have to solder, though I never did get around to doing it. If you google "problems with ford ododmeter display" I am sure you will get your answer.
