A lot of good info in that article.

Something else to consider that I dont' think was well pointed out in the article.

The difference between 5w-xx and 10w-xx

In cold weather (and in general) 5w or even 0w will decrease the amount of wear on startup. up to 70% of an engines wear can occur on startup and ways to decrease that are

- Use of a multi-weight oil that is low viscocity at ambient temp and has sufficient protection for at temp conditions (the last two digits of oil weight)
In other words a 5w multi-weight is better than a 10w multiweight in almost all circumstances and for heavy winter regions, a 0w multi-weight is ideal.

- If you have a lot of errands to run, Go to the furthest errand (distance wise) first. This allows the car more time to warm up properly and oil to be circulated to all components so that subsequent start-ups are not so hard.

Ya after searching around I found M1 0w-40 to be what seems a solid choice especially for the cold winters here. I also found that a high HTHS is important when choosing an oil. M1 0w-40 has a very high HTHS in comparison to others.

If I just hadn't changed my oil I would be changing it with M1 0w-40
