Default Future Owner w/Question

I am currently shopping for a 99-04 gt. Looking for something that already has some aftermarket parts on it, under 120k miles and in good (not perfect) condition. This will not be my DD, just something to play with and modify. I have a budget of $6800 to work with. KBB lists a a 2000 with 100k in very good condition at $5873. I have been all over the internet trying to find the right one but it just seems like most people are asking $1000 or more over what KBB suggests. I know bluebook isnt the end all of car values, but seriously? Am I not being reasonable? Should I be able to find what I am looking for within my budget?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I should also add that this is holding true for even bone stock GT's. I understand people like to get a least a little more back for the money they spend on mods.

KBB doesnt mean jack.
YOU determine the value of a car.

some people are willing to dump 25k on a car. others are not.

keep your eyes out and you'll eventually get lucky and find a couple deals. with the winter coming some people might be lookin to sell their RWD for something with AWD or 4WD. saw an '00 go for 9k the other day, but it had a tad less milage on it, and it was CLEAN.

then again, one guy around here wants 6800 for a '98 3.8l vert.

Are you looking at dealer or owner sales? Either way if you can haggle well enough, or they're hurting well enough you can get that price down to where you like it. Keep shopping around, you'll find a good deal.

Private party mostly. Dont get me wrong, I can find them in the 6000-6500 dollar range. But there seems to always be a catch like it has a salvaged title or needs some work done to it. I have found a few that seem to be good deals, but they are way out of driving range for me.

6k for a salvage title????? I either dont bother with salvage, or I use them as parts cars. They're worthless, $500 at most.

The one I found was a rebuild, but still held a salvaged title. Looked good, but god knows what kind of problems I would run into down the road. Based on what you guys are saying, looks like $6800 is on the low end of what I could get a decent 99 or 2000 gt.

IMO, thats wrong. salvage titles honestly dont mean jack either. its all what your willing to deal with. salvage title just means that its been "totalled". had to do this to my mothers intrepid because of the damage value and the fact that the air bag popped. she claimed insurance, bought the car back, and it had to go under a "salvage" title. damage was repaired (all rear damage), went through a basic inspection and passed.

now, yes 6k is alot for a salvage title. but its all based on what your getting...
one mans trash is another mans treasure so to say.

I just picked up a 99 Gt for 3800. Not great shape but ok. Now with new 03/04 cobra wheels, new paint, new shocks all around, new ball joints, chin spoiler, grill delete, new pedals and tint into it for about 7000. I looked for months to find right one. You can too. Just be patient it will come along.
