Default Gauge cluster question

MustangMan has a thread in the general discussion forum about mach 1 gauges with the white led's. So now this has me thinking about getting a new cluster since my tach is off because of a gauge overlay. So now im not sure if i want to drop around 200 on a mach1 cluster yet, and im looking around and thought that i would just buy another 04 gt cluster swap the boards then swap the led's but I read that in the later new edge years they had a green film in the cluster that colors the lights green, and in earlier years like 99 they didnt have any film so i could just throw white led's in there and be done. But i remember a while back someone saying that the 99-01(?) cluster wouldnt work in the 03-04(?)'s Can anyone answer if the earlier clusters would work in my 04

Sorry for the long thread too

'99 to '04 should work, however wouldn't it be a lot less hassle to just re-position the tach pointer?

All you have to do to "make sure it's right" is fire up the HEC diagnostic mode and set it have to the RPM displayed on the odometer, then stick the needle on it the right place...

I believe i read somewhere the film is blue, and the yellow tint from the incandescent bulbs combine to make the green color you see. Therfore putting white leds in will cause the light to be blue due to leds being "whiter" . Sorry i cant back that up with a link.....

I read someone say the same thing on a different forum that the yellow light with a blue film will make it green. I don't know though. And I didn't think about the HEC that could work. Might have to try that this weekend

I can tell you the 2000 GT's have a blue tint behind the dial. I bought "cool white" LEDs to get the desired blue color.
