Default SCT Tuner Question

Hey guys, the 2003 GT I purchased a few months back had been tuned with an SCT Handheld but the handheld was not included with the car when I bought it (was through a dealership, no idea where it ended up). I have two questions regarding this...

If I even wanted to return it to the stock tune, would that be possible with a brand new SCT Handheld?

I think the current tune on it isn't very good and would like to get it retuned, just want to make sure that shouldn't be an issue.

And with that in mind, does anyone have a recommendation for a tuner near SW Michigan?

Thanks for your help!

You should give American Muscle a call. They sell SCT tuners I'd imagine they offer some degree of support at no charge.

The SCT unit will automatically save whatever tune is on file in the PCM when a new one is uploaded. So since your car is already tuned, only way to get it back to OEM tune is have a dealership flash it back to factory.

Then with your new SCT unit, when you upload a custom tune, it will save the stock one automatically. If you uploaded a custom tune right now, it will save the tune you have currently on your car.

You will need to have a Ford dealer flash a stock tune, or find a SCT shop and have them flash a stock tune--they will likely want you to buy a handheld tuner as well.

If you bought it from a Ford dealer then bring it back to them and make them flash a stock tune.

One last question--what makes you believe it does not have a stock tune? Has it been checked or is that just what you were told?

Thanks for the replies guys...

The reason I believe it does not have a stock tune is due to the mods that were already done to the car. The previous owner had kept a list that was included with the car when I purchased it, and an SCT Handheld and Custom tune were included in this list.

But now that you mention it, I'm actually wondering if maybe the PO flashed it back to stock and kept the tuner for himself, since I did find out from a friend at the dealership that his purchase after trading in was a new Cobra that he could have used the handheld for also.

Would a dealership be able to plug into it and tell if it is in fact a stock tune right now, or would I need to find an SCT shop to check that?

A Ford dealer could do it, however in my experience finding a tech that knows how to do any more than reflash the PCM will be difficult.

An SCT shop, or for that matter any tuning shop (I could do it with Delta Force in less than 10 minutes), might do it for free or a minimal charge.
