2000 Mustang GT
I have concerns about the engine in my 2000 Mustang GT. It was in an accident, and the front end was pushed into the motor causing the following to break harmonic balancer, timing cover, and crank trigger wheel. It doesn't look like anything else was damaged. I was wondering if I fixed these would the engine be good to go. Since there was damage to the balancer should I put new main and rod bearings in it?
I have a pic of it hopefully it shows up.

I would say there is a very good possibility that engine's crankshaft is fubar.
You can try just replacing the external parts, however I'd open it up and steady yourself to expect some internal damage...

Obviously, and not to be facetious, the "not obvious"...
To do it right the crank needs to come out and be spin up in lathe to check its trueness and balance; to do it really right it should be magnafluxed. Then reinstalled in the block and making sure it spins as it should once reinstalled.
My honest opinion i that you can rebuild this engine now, or rebuild it in a relatively short time--do you not have insurance? I'd bet an honest adjuster would total that engine...

I have insurance but I bought this car to do an entire swap on my V6. The price was right I couldn't pass it up even if I had to end up rebuilding the motor. The guy I it bought from actually just did a rebuild and ported and polished the heads three months before he wrecked it. Do you think I could just get a new crank and put in it? Thanks for the info.

No one that has not fully inspected the engine (turned it over, observed how it turns, and measured the crank and block) can answer that question.
You either need to inspect all that yourself, or have an engine shop do it for you, before you will know what needs to be done...

What did you pay for the car? Honestly that hole motor can be fubar, depending how it went on impact of the iming chain got pinches there could be a couple bent valves in the head and een piston damage. Even with a good price u could of bought a pile of scrap, atleast ull have a trans and rear out of it.
