Default Shifter Help

I'm sadly new to these forums, and If this is in the wrong place please move it or tell me.

My father and I have a 1999 Mustang GT 35th Anv. model with a 5.0 in it I believe, I sadly have no clue. I'm not really into Muscle yet. I spend my time in the DSM scene, but getting tired of it for now and want to help my dad with his Mustang. So I've been looking at 99-04 models and the Shifter is completely different from ours. Our shifter is just straight up, while the cars I browse have that jagged type grip where it goes straight than just bends. I was wondering if this is a different type shifter or am I just seeing things? I can get pictures if needed. Its really the only thing throwing me off from getting a lovely Pony.

That car would have come stock with a 4.6l engine and a T45 tranny. In 2000 (or '01 depending on where you read) they started using the TR3650 tranny.
Why would the shape of the shifter stop you from getting a car?

Welcome to the forum.

Your '99 has the 4.6L 2 valves/cylinder, single overhead cam, "Performance Improved" engine that was used in all '99 to '04 Mustang GTs.

The stock shifter and shift lever look like this, it could be that someone installed an aftermarket shift lever or an entire shifter...

You can read more about aftermarket shifters on my blog...

Ah thank you Cliffy! Exactly what I was looking for. And its not the 4.6L. It has a completely different Engine in it and I believe we have the slips since the other gave out, according to the Owners. :S

Got a picture of the engine--it will be easy to determine what it's got...

Ill get you a picture tomorrow hopefully since I'm taking it out for a drive. I believe "The Steeda Tri-Ax shifter" is the one in it. (Basing this off the Shift **** :P). As I said earlier, I'm from the DSM/Import Scene so I apologize if I kinda screw up haha.

You do have aftermarket caster/camber plates so it has likely been lowered...

Yep, that's a 4.6 alright. Maybe someone just slapped a 5.0 sticker on the side to look cool?

You have piqued my curiosity, what is "DSM"?
