Default 04 gt motor in a 96 gt body

Over the last few days I have been doing some looking and I would like to know what I am about to get in to. I am getting a 04 gt motor and tranny. I have a 96 gt I would like to know if everything will go in and if there is anything that needs toi be changed. I did a swap not long ago to a 98 motor and then I found out the tranny is in need of some work and all so I am going with a PI motor out an 04 this time. Any and all help anyone can give to me would be great. Thanks. I know from looking my bolt on items I have will fit on the 04 motor like my bbk air intake and the throttle body and plenum. Now here is a question to get the most out of the motor do I need to just tune the ecu or is there anything else I need to do ? I want to get the best out of the set up. I am new at doing this kind of work on cars so please work with me I just like to know everything before I get started. From what I been told the motor will go right in no problem I just want to know if the tranny will fit and the wireing harness and all.

I advise you to venture out to different forums to gain knowledge from different sources since this thread has 147 views and no responses.

Your probbly not getting many responses cause this is a topic that has been covered 1000 times on a 1000 different forums and if you actually used google to search, you could find what you are looking for.

Would help if we knew if it was auto or manual.

Either way, it should drop in fairly easy...I dropped a 04 motor in my 96, just took the timing cover and valve covers from the 96 motor and transferred it over to the 04 and it dropped right in. Its a fairly simple task ...you will end up using most of this accessories and crap off your 96, coil backs and wires, etc.

If you are auto you will have to figure out how to make the speedometer work since your car is mechanical and an 04 4r70w will have an electronic speedo output.

If its an auto 96 can the tranny from the 96 motor be used on the 99-04 motor?

Yes, it will work.

I read it wrong, I thought he was putting an 04 motor and tranny in but he is keeping his 96 trans and putting the 04 motor in.

There will be no problems then.

good deal I was curious about it myself also bc on my 96dd a complete pi motor swap seems to be a bit cheaper than a pi h/c/i parts +labor

yea, might as well do a full motor swap....I went with an 04 explorer motor for the aluminum block.
