31 spline conversion/handling questions?
Im switching out my gears to 3.73, which should be best for a FI setup, and was considering swapping out the rear end for a 31 spline with axles. Someone posted that it will affect the handling of the car? Is this true? I plan on getting an eibach kit which will lower it 1.1 in., sway bars, and bushings. Also plan on sticking with the SRA.
BTW the car will be weekends/carshows/occasional track with the guys. My guess is to stick with the 28 spline and rebuild but just want opinions.
Thanks!

31 spline axles are stronger and that's the only difference. The only thing you will need to change for them is the carrier. 31vs28 doesn't change the handling of the car at all.
The other mods you mention will change the handling.

Thanks. I didnt see how it would change the handling and I couldnt find anything to back up that it would, so I thought Id ask.
One more dumb question, the carrier? What is this? Ive looked into the LSD, axles and gears... not familiar with the carrier.

Inside are the spider gears, disks (carbon or regular), and the S clip. The 31 spline axles have to match up to a 31 spline LSD, or they won't fit into it.

The guys have pretty much covered your question above.
You don't need to invest in a 31 spline set-up unless you plan to take it to the track and abuse it with sticky tires. If you will occasionally take it to the track for some fun, you might want to simply keep the 28 spline set-up and use slicks to reduce the harshness on your axles.

Great, Thanks! Thats basically what I figured. Ill put gears in it and get the rebuild kit wqith carbon disks from AM and call it a day. My goal is 400 rwhp here. Nothing insane...
I appreciate the help!
