Default Hood Scoop coming loose

I have a 1999 GT and the Hood Scoop is coming loose. I opend the hood and looked under the liner and found all the screws/bolts that are supposed to hold the hood scoop down. I figured it must have just come unscrewed and I just tried to tighten it back in. Well I think the hole might be stripped or I am doing somthing wrong. I lifted up the scoop enough to actually see where the screw comes up from and I think it's supposed to go straight into the plastic honey comb that is inside the scoop, but I am not sure.

I can actually see the hood scoop lifting up at 35mph. Also the previous owner had double sided tape holding it down (found that out when lifting it up). Hopefully I won't have to continue doing this, but if I must, its not the end of the world.

Any tips or tricks to fix this?

Thanks,

Josh

The scoop actually has studs that go through the hood that are then fastened with nuts. My best guess is the studs have stripped in the plastic. You may be able to glue them back into the plastic and then reinstall the nuts. Without seeing it for sure its hard to say however.

Here's what the '01+ scoop looks like from underneath, as Steve said there are studs held in place with metal clips. The '99 might be different, IDK?

I will ask my brother as he has a 35th Anniversary model and has had the scoop off a couple times playing with different paint styles...

Yeah my 99 hood scoop looks a little different, but I haven't taken mine off.

Cliff, please let me know what your brother says, I am very interested in his input.

Correct me if im wrong..But 99 GT didnt come with hood scoops.
Only some v6's and 35th anniversary as Im aware .

I had to put a hood scoop on my 99 GT from a 04 Mustang GT.

As for the hood scoop coming loose could be a broken clip or nut came lose under hood side.

Repzard, it's a 35th Anniversary haha I was debating if it matter or not to mention it in my original post.

Here's what my brother reported about the '99 35th Anniversary scoop:

Mine only has 2 screws and doublesided trim tape holding it on. The 2 screws are both approximately 20" from the back end of the hood, and 18.5" apart and some 4" back from the front of the scoop.

It is a regular 1999-2001 hood under it with that smaller version of a scoop.
It's his baby, a garage queen--literally looks like new in and out:

So it would seem the tape is stock...

Thanks Cliff, and your brother! I guess I will have to run to the store and pick up some double sided tape.

Get that gray 3M stuff, prep the surfaces well and it sticks like baby "$#it" to a blanket...
