Default Installed K&N FIPK, mileage gone to crap...

Since installing the K&N FIPK my gas mileage took a nose dive, performance gains are highly questionable at best, and it idles like ****. I think I'm just gonna replace my stock intake hosing, keep the K&N filter and scrap the rest.

Any ideas why this might have happened ?

Also, if anyone wants to buy the kit minus the filter element pay for shipping plus ~$30 bucks and it's yours. btw my 2000GT has the intake air temp sensor, so if your car doesn't have this (I'm not sure what years don't have it) then the kit isn't for you...

don't tell me you were expecting really nice gains from an intake

I can't imagine the MPG going down from a CAI. Are you sure?

But yes, what kind of gains did you expect?

Honestly the only "gains" I got at all were that it's extra noisy at the top end.. I wasn't expecting any big gains, just wasn't expecting a performance drop

MPG has gone down VERY noticeably... like 25% drop in MPG... wtf???

did you buy your janx new or used? if used, maybe the filter needs a good scrubbing?

the gains you get from an intake are like 3-5RWHP. not something you'll feel. should get slightly better throttle response though.

Yes, all good things to check out. I can't imagine dropping 25% in gas milage from a CAI.

Yeah, dont ever over oil the filter. If the oil gets on the MAF sensor it can destroy it. Spray filter lightly and make sure its dry before re-installing it. That can be your problem. You shouldn`t of seen any decrease.

It is brand new out of the box and I didn't add any oil to the filter or anything.

I disconnected the battery during installation, so that's taken care of.
