Post a picture. I am doubting the COP since they didn't come in until 1999 and I highly doubt that he went through the trouble of replacing the wiring harness to make it work. If it did come from a 98, it's just a 4.6L NPI motor, just like what came out of the crown vic to begin with.

my mistake crown vic is 98 engine 99 it does have cops i just changed plugs no plug wires just a two wire plug in to each coil on top of each plug its single overhead cams oil fill on the driver side i seen the mustang he pulled it out of no front clip and i was'nt buying it at the time so i did'nt really care i don't think its performance improved i would like to be sure of the year and why the cops.

That is weird, most people just reuse the coil packs and wires when they swap it. If the engine came out of a 99 GT, then it's the PI version. It's next to impossible to tell the difference between the PI and NPI without pulling the intake.

on another forum they said the pi version had the oil fill on the passenger side and that the first intake runner comes from the driver side my oil fill is on driver side and the front intake runner comes from the passenger side this but yet it has the cops. this is why i can't figure out what year it is.

You are right about the oil fill, but when I did the PI swap on my 98, I reused my NPI valve covers. The intake is way deeper into the valley on the PI engine, but again, you can use the PI intake on an NPI engine. The only sure way to know is by the shape of the intake ports on the heads, or to dyno it.

It sounds like it's just an NPI engine to me, but why they would switch to COP is beyond me.
