Default Underhood Speaker?

I was dickering around under my hood and saw this:

It's a speaker of some kind with wires going into the firewall. I have no clue what this thing is all about. It's so odd on account of the fact that it's oriented back toward the car. Does it look like an alarm or something? The only reason I post this is because I want to know if anything was moved or taken out so the previous owner could put this dopey thing in. Any ideas?

Aftermarket car alarm. Nothing was moved, that corner of the car is pretty bare. Look under the dash for a module. Those things can be a real pain to remove without a good wiring diagram.

Dammitall. I was suspicious of that. I'm inclined to just cut the leads, tape 'em off and call it a day. Electrical crap like this drives me bats.

Its a ford upgraded alarm, Ford basically bought a aftermarket alarm system and put their name on it.

My car had it from the factory.

Mine does 2 chirps when locked in stead of 2 horn beeps

I have the upgraded alarm too. It has the ford name on it but was manufactured by code alarm which audiovox bought out. My alarm uses the cars horn. Ford sold these as a option when car was purchased. What I have read they didn't even install them, they farmed it out to alarm installers.

It definitely does. The previous owner had some kind of wacky stereo speakers in the back and when he sold it, he did a hatchet job and just cut the wires. There's a random toggle switch on my dash by the T/C and the defrost and now this. I'm not worried about it, I'm just wondering if I'll fk anything up by cutting the wires, unbolting the thing and tossing it. When I lock up my car, there is no chirp. The horn blips and that's it. Sounds pretty stock.

If the alarm system has a starter disable, you can screw things up by cutting the wires.
