Default 2002 GT Ticking Noise PLEASE HELP!! (Video)

Hey guys, im new to the forum. In fact, new to mustangs in general. Know a bit about cars but im no mechanic. So i just bought a 2002 mustang gt 4.6 premium convertible, manual tranny about a week ago. Ran pretty darn good, nice and smooth. Someone pointed out to me that when i first started it up when the oil pressure was down, it make a sort of rough sound, but as soon as oil pressure was built up it went away (5 to 10 seconds after cold start). So the first thing i did was changed the oil, its got 97000 miles on it, and the oil seemed a little dirty, not too bad. Was pretty thick though. I noticed that the oil cap said 5 20w oil, so i put some castrol 5 20 in it, and a quart of lucas oil additive (just to clean up the engine since i had just got it)........

Now i realize that its almost got 100k on it, and maybe the manufacturers suggested 5 20w wasnt the best idea now. So after the oil change nothing improved or got worse, but then i did a fuel filter change. (to do so, i had to start the car to get the gas out of the lines after the fuel switch was off and bled ect ect...) so after the filter change, i turn it over and i hear the sound in the video. sounds like its coming from the right side, if facting the engine, (left if sitting in the driver seat) PLEASE, any advice on what it could be is welcomed, i am freaking out and dont want to drive the car! The sound will go away usually after around 10 minutes. And it seems to like to stick around if i start the car, drive only a little, and shut off, start it again.....

Thanks for looking!!!!

Damn, it almost sounds like a rod knock. Don't quote me 100% though. I'll wait for someone else to chime in.

An old trick I learned years ago take a piece of wood about a foot long or less put it on the engine and put your ear to it and you can use it like a stethoscope. It might help you pin point it if it is truly internal. The video makes it hard as to where I can't pinpoint the sound.

Almost sounds like a collapsed lifter, a rod knock would probly not go away. The 4.6 is overhead cam so I don't think they have lifters, timing chain?? Good luck

Almost all 4.6s will knock after an oil change for a few seconds and occasionally on start up. A few things to check should be whether or not it changes with rpm. Most likely it will. I would get a long screwdriver and listen to the oil pan to see if its coming from the bottom end. These engines are also notorious for breaking the plastic timing guides and making a real loud ticking noise. Use the same screwdriver method on the front cover. But odds are if you are losing oil pressure it is in the bottom end and something down there isn't as tight as it used to be. You may have spun a bearing or an end cap may be loose. I hate to break it to you but any kind of noise like that generally indicates some serious mechanical issues. Hope this helps a little.
