Default 4:10 gears here I go!!

I am getting 4:10 gears for my 2001 cobra but wasn't very sure what I exactly needed (parts etc..). My friend is doing the labor work for free! So that's nice. I know the IRS won't hold too much power but I'm going to swap out pretty soon. So what will I need to buy? 31 spline etc..?

i thought 01 Cobras came with 31 spline axles already?...

and just the basic gear kit from any the parts sites should do the trick

American muscle has a very detailed installation for gears. That may be a big help.

I always thought the 99-01 Cobras had 28 spline axles, but I never really looked into it so that may be the case. Either way, I wouldn't upgrade anything except the gears if you're planning on pulling the IRS soon.

If you just want 4.10 gears we do sell some by Ford Racing. You can also include a Gear Install Kit, with or without new bearings, as well.

Hope this helps! Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Okay that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me. That's something I should've known by now haha.

Oh ok. Also another question, will an 03/04 stock air intake fit and pass smog on my 01 cobra?

I've heard really good things about the AmericanMuscle kits. Bearings, traction lok etc. I'm doing all that in a couple months, probably 3.73s but I'm trying to talk myself into beign a real man and getting the 4.10s.
Time to nut up or shut up!

A 3.73 and even the 3.90 wont make a much a difference if your stock gear is 3.55 or 3.20ish .. It's not worth the money .. You will feel a "seat of the pants" with a 4.10 and some guys in my area with 96-98 cobras run 4.30 gears and love em ..
