The Vehicle Certification label on the driver's door jam will show the transmission type code:

It will be one of these, should be U, 4R70W for your '03.
  • 5-Five-speed manual (T5OD/TR3150) - base
  • B-Six-speed manual (T56), Cobra
  • K-Five-speed manual (TR3650), GT
  • U-Four-speed automatic (AODE/4R70W)

For more precise model #, etc there is a tag on the transmission:

Hmm, I didn't know the v6 had different 5 speed. Shows how much attention I pay to v6 mustangs.

I drove a 2004 V6 convertible before I bought my GT. I had not driven a Mustang in years and saw it advertised at a used car dealer about 30 miles away for $10,900 (this was in November of 2006). I drove over there in my '92 Miata pushing 18 psi via a coldside mounted M-62 blower, and literally drove the Mustang less than 1/2 mile before bringing it back to the lot.

What a friggin' dog, my wife's '03 Toyota Highlander would have eaten if for lunch. The dealer kept knocking the price down and finally he asked if I would pay $7500, I told him "No, I do not want the car. I'd spend the rest of the time I owned saying 'Wow I should have got a V8'."

Of course the GT was not the fastest thing when I got it either, the '92 Miata would eat stock GT's and Bullitts for breakfast, and do in Mach 1s too--I miss that look on the driver's faces when their "muscle-car" just got honed by a Miata...

Hah, throw enough boost at anything and it'll go fast I guess. I know GTs aren't the fastest, but I like them. Sometimes I wish I would have gone with a Camaro or Trans am though. Gotta love the LS1

The older V8 Camaros were faster than New-Edge GTs--however you can make a Mustang fast, you can't make a Camaro look good...

Yeah, never liked the look of comaros much. I do kinda like Trans ams though. If I had $20,000 to throw around I could have gotten a vette, oh well.
