Try slamming the door a few times while holding the button (up or down depending on the position of the window). There could be a dead spot in the motor.

There are no relays (with one exception) the window motor are switched directly from the switches. Does the passenger window work from the driver side switch?

My driver's window stopped functioning suddenly with no warning. No noises, slowing down, etc. The switch is good (swapped it with the passenger switch on the driver's door). Then, a week later the driver's window started working.

Again, no noises, clicking grinding etc. I've read about the bushings or "plugs" failing in the window motors. Does this failure make a noise or cause slow/erratic movement? I haven't checked the wiring, but the rubber accordian sleeve around the wiring between the body and door is 100% intact.

Since the window was functioning perfectly before and after it stopped, am I correct in presuming the problem is either an intermitent connection or dead spot in the motor?

Can the motor itself be pulled out of the door or does the motor/regulator have to be removed as a unit?

It is the brushes in the motor that wear to the point they no longer make solid contact with the commutator--this is the problem for which banging the door often provides a temporary fix, as does as you discovered just driving around and normal vibration. It will not get any better and will in fact get worse--you need a new motor...
