I have a 2000 GT that iam in the process of painting, I have $2000 and am looking to maximize my performance with my car and I was wondering what i should get. I can do all of the installation myself with my brother. I already have a flow master catback exhaust and plan on removing the cats and making a custom X-pipe. Please help me out

Here's a good start, cliffyk is an amazing outlet for information on new edge. Gives you a nice path to take without going to advanced.
Plan on doing the work yourself?

personally, i would skip all the bolt ons and go with a supercharger if hp is what you want. theres a nice write up about the $1500 vortech builds. If handling is your thing, talk to jazzer, hes very good in this departmment

Maybe he doesn't want to go f/i. Many do not, for a whole variety of reasons--personally it is because I have been there and done it a number of times on may different vehicles, and in my "golden years" where I am now (262/305 rwHP/lb-ft) will allow me to exceed any speed limit in the US by a factor of 2X+...

-----------------------------------------------------
And I have (in 22 years) exhausted my Florida lifetime limit of five traffic school "bail out" opportunities...

oh im not saying he does, im just spit balling. and yes i understand a stock platform gt will carry its self way past any speed limit. he really left it wide open with saying maximizing performance and $2000 budget. its pretty common knowledge here on the forum that throttle bodies/plenums give little gains and it takes long tube headers to get much more than any gain header wise, stock intake manifold is by far the best on any sttock to mild build and the factory cai is as good as any after market cai. my point here is most people have regretted getting bolt ons first before moving to the forced induction. for the cost of all bolt ons, a vortech could be installed. he asked for ideas, i gave mine. so please dont shoot it down because you dont agree

Seems to me like perhaps the first "performance mod" you purchased should have been a high quality radar detector.

That being said, in my 11 years as a licensed driver I have already used two. And a lawyer to get out of number three...

That was 22 years here in Florida, I have been driving for 52 years.

I have a "threat detector", a good one, however for 20 of those 22 years I drove 50k to 55k miles a year and just as in casino gambling they more you play the more you lose...

Hey lighten up--I did not "shoot down" your recommendation, all I said was: "Maybe he doesn't want to go f/i."

yes i will be doing all the work myself with my brother. i have been talking to him a lot about it and this is what i think i might do. First a turner and a stroker kit that will also give me the opportunity to clean up the engine bay paint it. After that sense i will probably be right at if not over my budget i will have to wait to do any more. How much will the stroker kit effect?

now the more i have been thinking about it i am really interested in possibly putting a supercharger in it. The only problem with this is that I would need to rebuild the engine because my mustang has 120000 miles and it would not be good to slap a supercharger on it like that.
