Default fuel filter change

fuel filter change. Do i have to shut off something for pressure, i think i had to in my 97, something i clicked in the trunk under the carpet. like a fuel petcock. on the mach1 you can undo pressure on the fuel rail?

do i really need the 5/16th fuel line disconnect tool ?

When I change the filter in my 03, I just take the gas cap off and pull the filter off. Filter is held on by clips on my car, so no disconnect tool needed. Ive never had any pressure when I removed the filter, but I usually change mine in the spring before the first start after its been sitting all winter

I popped the gas cap, and unplugged the fuel cutoff switch on the drivers side of the trunk in my 2000 GT.
You do need the tool, otherwise youll never get the fuel line off the filter.

tripping the inertia switch wont relieve the pressure unless the car is running when you do it. I've always done it when the system pressurized and it is really not that big a deal. you can also remove the fuel pump relay while the car is running and just let it die.

I know the filters on the 94-98s you don't need a disconnect tool as they are not the clip locked duckbill fitings, its just a plastic push lock that u move by hand.

I've never relieved the fuel pressure on mine before changing the filter, just were safety glasses or close your eyes haha. And you do need the tool. They should have it at any parts store for around $5.
