Default Fuel pump unit

I pulled the fuel pump and found this...

Fuel pump assembly cap for reference

There is a cracked piece from the shroud that fits around the pump itself that broke. It came from the light area just above my thumb. I found it in the pump basket.

Could this cause pressure problems? It actually feels like the pump seals OK but my other concern is the cap looks to be degrading. The shroud around the pump is cracked in other places. The piece I found in the bottom of the basket could have been sucked onto the screen I guess and caused problems as well. It may be why my problem was intermittent. The issue is cost. A new pump only is $100 but the whole assembly is $250. I need to test the pump but don't know how or where I can get it tested. This adds to my problem of not knowing exactly what is causing the issue.

A fuel filter can also cause problems

New fuel filter. I've been through everything except the pump.

best bet is to buckle down and just pay the 250. after looking at the pump hat again, the seal for the pump looks rough and may be causing leaks
