Default Rearend noise help!

I have a 97 gt with a rearend out of a 98 cobra. So I put the rearend in about 10000 miles ago and after install all was well. It has 4.10's and I have tubular upper and lower control arms as well as a steeda swaybar. So recently after driving for around 25 minutes or so I get an awful scrubbing noise from the rear of the car anytime I turn. It is only after I have been driving for a little while and if I let the car cool off it goes away again for a while. It hasn't made any drivability problems as I have been driving for a few months this way and haven't had it get any better or any worse. About a month ago I drained it and refilled with royal purple 75-90 and when I drained it there was no metal shavings in the bottom what so ever. The trac loc does not lock hardly ever. On occasion when it is raining and going around a corner it will lock up. It only seems to make the noise at low speed and usually a decent angle turn. Going straight it makes no noise outside of a little whining that it has had since I put it in this problem has only occurred for 2-3k miles and I'm not really sure where to start looking to try and fix it. Don't want to replace everything in the differential of not necessary. Also if it makes any difference I still have the quad shocks installed and I am running 275/40/17's in the rear. Thanks for any advice guys.

if its only during a turn it might be the spider gears, maybe they are worn. do you remember what condition they were in when you drained the fluid? are the axle seals dry? check your wheel bearings as well.

Spider gears had no movement, no pitting or chewed up gears. And the axle seals and bearings are possible because the rearend sat about 4 years before install so they could have dried up if that makes any sense.

But as far as at the end the axle seals are dry not leaks anywhere so I guess they are fine. But would wheel bearings or spider gears make noise only after being driven for a decent time?

Noise after been driven sounds more like low fluid to me, wheel bearing will act retarted when they start to go, sometime you hqve to visually check their condition. Does it do the boise in both directions? And by the way, our cars require a friction modifing additive with the diff oil. Did you put some in?

Well I put in the royal purple and it supposedly already has the friction modifier added to it. Whether or not that is true I'm not sure but as far as whether it does it both ways or not I don't know. I've never heard it in reverse that I can recall but that does not mean that it does not. I added fluid with the car level until it came out of the full plug. The noise was identical from the first fluid that was in it to when I changed it and it was full both times.

Well then in think its time to narrow it down a little more. Drive it around and see if it does it in both directions, if its speed related, if brakes affect it or of its coming only from one side. Sit in the back seat and have someone drive you around.
