Oh man, I'm so sorry for you haha. Yeah, my car has been running fine. Driven about 7-800 miles so far with no problems. *knock on wood* What I was told was that something must have happened to the chip on the computer which caused it to short out. I realized it would cut out most after feeling anykind of jolt..speed hump, bump, pothole...so that did makes sense. They found 1 computer with my part number and had it shipped here. My bill came out to 663.30. 150 for the computer, 30 for labor of installing it(which is fine by me. They never charged me for the electrical specialist coming to look at the car for a week which cost them about 100 bucks, or for the labor of replacing the crank sensor.) 200 for reprogramming of the PATS system and PCM, 75 for updating the PCM with whatever was the latest revision from Ford, then the left over were tax things are small other repairs i had done while it was there.

Your car should be fine when all is said and done with the PCM. Let me know what they tell you happened and if it fixes it.

Well you were spot on! There was a short in wiring harness and it burned out the motherboard. The short was found, fixed and the PCM replaced. I'm back on the road now!
Thanks!

Congrats dude, that's great! Hope it runs strong from here on out! How much did the pcm run you? I'm assuming they found a used one, correct?

AHungryUnicorn, I can't believe that you described my current scenario with such precision. I have had Ford and mechanics look at it for the past few years and have thrown money into my Mustang with no results. I finally bought a scanner the other day and today when I was washing the car it choked out just as you described and just as always. (there are some 'now' funny stories about where it decided to rev up and die out) Anyway, I got the P1260 error and finally was able to search out my problem with much more accuracy then trying to describe it to somebody and trying not to leave out details.

I will follow your course of action and thanks for posting it. I'm seeing the PCMs on ebay for about $70 these days. I was thinking of buying one in hopes that it's not in the same shape as mine and have a mechanic deal with it from that point.

I have to ask if everything is still running great since it's been almost a year now.

yeah, car has been running smooth ever since replacing the pcm. (knock on wood. a lot of wood) Replace the pcm and you should be fine. my problem was the board was shorted. right after i got the car back, i went looking around for what could have caused such a weird problem. it seemed that no one else had this problem yet besides me at the time, so i was kind of in the dark. the positive cable for my battery cracked and became lose, so after moving around fro m hitting enough bumps it finally shorted something.

just make sure nothing can short out a new pcm. it's simple enough to change, reprogramming the damn thing was the expensive part. i'm glad this helped you out though. i couldn't find any information on this at the time really. i've had a few replies now across fourms with people having this exact problem. i feel like it's gonna start popping up more now. anyway, good luck, dude. hope your cars back to normal soon.
