i'll never buy a rebuilt car ever again if i can help it, especially if a car lot bought it to resale, they just dont put in the care they would if it was a personal rebuild.

I'd stay away from it just because of the salvage title, take your time and another car will come, trust me I know. (I've had 4 cars in the past two years and I was fed up with POS's). Then i found my stang a few months ago (2006 v6 5speed) and I couldn't be any happier. All-in-all, take your time and keep looking.

There is nothing wrong with a salvage title if the car was put back together properly. My car is a salvage title car and I garentee it runs, drives and looks better than most 96 Clean title GT's

I am surprised the guy gave your dad the money back, private sales are considered as-is sales.

The big thing is find out more information about the acident it was in and VERIFY that it was fixed properly. Theres alot of shady people out there and who knows it could of been creamed in the front end and someone just went to the junkyard and cut a whole front enf of a car from the firewall forward and just welded it back to that car without even verifying its straight. Easy way to check is if there are huge stacks of spacers on the fender mounting locations.

what exactly has to happen for a car to go from Salvaged to Rebuild? does it have to be inspected but someone? or can anyone just say "yeah we fixed it" and get it approved for Rebuilt.

Every state has different ways. But they usually involve some type of inspection. I know in MI the State Police handle it

My 1998 GT had the same gas issue when I bought it... mine had 120K on the clock, and the seller knew nothing about it.. supposedly. I filled it up on the way home.. 1/2 mile from his house... and gas just poured out.. where the fill tube meets the tank. $15 for a new gasket.... 1 1/2 hour job.. DONE!... would have taken way less but I forgot to grab the fuel line tool from my father in law... 3/4 hour drive to get the tool..

$1800.00 for that car doesn't seem all that bad at all.
