Default What to do.

I am looking into adding twin turbos on my 2002 Mustang GT....I am curious if I will ahve to swap out tranny's as well? I have the automatic in it now...don't even know what it is. I am looking to beef up driveline...31 spline axels and diff with 3.73 gears. Unless I am wrong? What all do I need to do?

Yes tranny will need to replaced with one that can handle the power, same with the rear if you plan to launch hard on it.

How much power do you plan on making? What do you have engine wise and fuel system wise.

I have the 4.6L and an automatic. Seeing as how turbo kits for these are cheaper than a supercharger...that was the route I was thinking. I have heard the stock motor and driveline will hold 450 hp...but I feel I will be above that...700hp max for now. Never have I seen a automatic turbo...which is why I asked what tranny would I need. I know basics...like frame stiffners, better axels and driveline and diff with gears. Engine wise I wouldn't know who to go to other than AM for parts or exactly to get to beef it up except for better bolts. I will also be changing out the cams (single ohc) but what else?

Hehe,,,twin turbos..you'll need to replace everything on the car..don't forget about a nice stall converter 3600+... That's another grand.

i dont know where you got the information that turbos are cheaper than superchargers, but thats a lie

If youre planning on running 700hp then youre gonna have to build an engine with forged parts because the stock engine will blow up very very quickly pushing that kind of power

Poweradders.com is one reference site that I saw. So fer no one has really told me what I need to know. I have stated that I will need to beef internals and such...but no one has said if an automatic will work or do I need to swap in a manual...if so which kind? I could also just do single turbo and not push the 450 hp line on the engine and componets.

Two replies directly addressed the transmission part of your questions.

Also found this using the Google:
Because turbo cars are so rough on the transmission, an automatic transmission cooler is an absolute requirement. Devine highly recommends running an electric fan on the cooler, like this Perma-Cool package, to keep the tranny temperature in check. Lugo says once the gauge reaches 250 degrees—after a few extra seconds on the transbrake—you’re in trouble.
