Default 2004 Mach 1 5 Speed Transmission.. Tranny Fluid?

I've read all over that our Mustangs use Dexron III but the only Dexron I see at Autozone is Dexron VI?

Is this what I should be using on my 5 speed transmission flush?

Back in 2003/2004, Ford specified MERCON III ATF in the Tremec 3650 5 speed transmission in your Mach 1. Now, Ford specifies MERCON V for all applications requiring MERCON III.

Tremec, the manufacturer of the 3650 specifies Mobil 1 ATF OR DEXRON III. See page 8 of the Tremec 3650 Service Manual:

http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...ice_Manual.pdf

Note that Tremec specifies 3.8 liters of ATF.

Ford has since revised its fluid capacity for the 3650 to 3.0 liters:

A lot of guys run synthetic manual transmission oil, but I avoid it. According to a Tremec engineer I spoke with, some of the materials used in the 3650 specifically require an ATF.

Exactly what I needed to know. Thank you sir for the updated information!

Additionally I have another question.... I've read that the Mercon V is used in the power steering system as well is this correct on these generation Mustang?

Mercon V is the replacement for Mercon III for all applications calling for Mercon III.

Mercon V has been in my power steering system for years.

I have had best results with my '03 GT running Mobil 1 ATF (3.0 L), much smoother shifts than with GM Syncromesh or RP Synchromax...
